A Short History of Malaysia Baptist Convention (MBC)
The Malaysia Baptist Convention (MBC) traces its roots to the Baptist churches in Malaya and Singapore. On 16 August, the Malaya Baptist Convention was officially organised in Penang, with five founding churches from Alor Star, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
As the Baptist movement continued to grow, the Convention changed its name to the Malaysia Baptist Convention (MBC), reflecting its development and ministry in Malaysia.
In May 1967, MBC appointed Rev. Wong Chung from Hong Kong as its first General Secretary, serving for a three-year term. Later that year, in response to political changes in the region, the Convention changed its name to the Malaysia-Singapore Baptist Convention (M-SBC).
Throughout its history, the Convention has sought to strengthen Baptist churches, promote Christian fellowship, and support the mission and witness of Baptists in the region.
